ORAHOOD, Maggie Fox

MAGGIE FOX ORAHOOD was born June 14, 1857.  Died, Dec. 22 1907.  Aged 50 years 6 months and 8 days.
Left an orphan at an early age she was reared entirely among strangers, and while being fortunate in having as good a home as is often provided for a child outside of family ties, she sorely missed the loving care of a mother and father and the daily companionship of brothers and sisters.  At the age of twenty, on March 22 1877 she was married to Geo. W. Orahood, and a home was formed which at once became her pride and joy.  Two children, Ada and Harold, came to bless this home and add to the sweetness of life. The death of a parent’s love and care during her own childhood, caused her to realize very acutely what parental love meant to children, and she was very careful to give to her children what she had so sorely missed in her own life, her main worry being the fear that she might not be spared to care for them until they arrived at the age of maturity.   Her prayer that she might live to see all of them grown was answered, yet her tender love and self sacrifice followed them on, as if proven in the laying down of her own life in the hopes of sparing her daughter.  Greater love hath no man. By her death the world has lost a noble woman, the neighborhood a kind and helpful neighbor, her children a very loving mother, her husband a true, affectionate and helpful wife, and a beautiful and happy home has been broken up, but she has entered into the joys of her home eternal. Our loss is but her gain.  She leaves three brothers in Western states and one sister in Texas, a husband, two children and two grandchildren, besides a host of friends to mourn her death. Funeral  conducted at the home by Levi Woody internment at Centennial. – s-
